Rent (Council Tenants)

If you are struggling to pay your rent, please get in touch. The quickest and easiest way to contact us with questions about your rent is via email, at housing.rents@stroud.gov.uk or by telephoning 01453 766 321 and choosing option 3, then option 3 again.

Council Tax Support is financial assistance available to low-income households to help you pay your council tax.

National Debtline

National Debtline is a charity. They give free and independent debt advice over the phone and online. They never cold call you and will not pass your personal information to other companies. The fact sheets give advice and information on a wide range of debt issues and options to deal with your debt. They are useful if you wan to read more information on a specific topic. Visit the fact sheet library which shows the full list of their fact sheets, which have been separated into categories to help you.

Call them for free debt advice on 0808 808 4000 or webchat with an advisor online Monday - Friday 9am-8pm and Saturday 9:30am-1pm.

GL Communities

Free and impartial advice service which was set up to help with money advice, problems and your financial future. They have the only language line interpreters in the county, and can access them for every client who does not speak English as their first language. Helping people in a time of crisis, they have a close relationship with Gloucester and Stroud foodbanks, clients who are in a food crisis may be assisted by granting access to these foodbanks. An advisor is generally available to assist with emergency advice on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. They operate a Food Parcel service for those in immediate need, including support for parents with babies and toiletries.

StepChange has a team of debt experts who help thousands of people every week to deal with their debt problems and get their lives back on track. They have more than 25 years' experience providing free, expert debt advice. They offer the widest range of practical debt solutions of any provider in the UK. No matter how large or small your debt problem is, they can help. They will look at your financial situation and five you exp0ert debt advice and recommend debt solutions to suit your situation. They can also help you set up and support your chosen solution. Their webchat offers guidance and information to help you with general queries. Their support team is available Monday - Friday, 8am-6pm, excluding bank holidays.

Stroud Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice aims to provide the advice people need for the problems they face. They value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination. They encourage their clients to make their own decisions and to act on their own behalf. They explain options and guide their clients through possible courses of action.

An advisor will make a brief assessment of your enquiry and depending on the nature of the issue, they may be able to provide you withy advice over the phone, or if appropriate, offer a telephone appointment. Their phone lines are available Monday - Friday, 10am-4pm.
