Stroud Town Council, working with Steve Roberts of Footprint Designs, met members of the public on 22nd February to discuss the potential for a new signage scheme in Stroud town centre.
Signage has been identified as an issue in several public consultations such as Shaping the Heart of Stroud (the town’s Neighbourhood Development Plan), the Forecourt Thoughts consultation at Stroud Station, and the Stroud Connects Cultural Strategy.
The problem is the lack of a coherent, consistent scheme to help locals and tourist to navigate around the centre.
In preparation for the event, research was undertaken to determine what the existing signage looks like and where it is located.
Members of the public were also encouraged to consider how the town is represented or branded through the signage and had the opportunity to inspect some of the materials that could be used including a range of recycled or recycle-able substances.
This is the very start of the process and following the initial discussions it is hoped that some designs can be developed for further consultation.
More than 40 people contributed their thoughts. The consultation document summarises the thought process behind the scheme to date.
A second initial consultation event is to take place at Stratford Park to allow people who couldn’t attend the first to give their thoughts.
The date will be announced in due course.
