He appeared, along with his creator Julia Donaldson and other friends in two sell-out shows at Lansdown Hall.
The event raised more than £1,800 to support further development of Lansdown Hall which Stroud Town Council saved from closure three years ago. Since then the hall has undergone major repairs and refurbishments, with more on the cards.
Children’s writer Julia is a frequent visitor to Stroud. Her sister Mary Moore has lived in the town since 1975 and was originally involved with the hall when it was known as The Space.
“I know Stroud quite well and when she suggested we do a show to raise money for Lansdown Hall I was delighted to help,” she said.
Town councillor Eva Ward said: “The event raised a fantastic amount. We are indebted to Julia Donaldson and, of course The Gruffalo, for their kindness and generosity of doing these shows for nothing.”
