Stroud Town Council has been supporting a campaign by county councillor Sarah Lunnon to cut the speed limit.
Councillor Lunnon told town council members that the new limit would be introduced on some of the town centre’s roads by the autumn.
The move follows a Gloucestershire County Council consultation earlier this year and will affect up to 80 roads in the town. It includes main roads such as Beeches Green, Bisley Road, Slad Road and Folly Lane.
The town council and Councillor Lunnon believe that the new speed limit will make Stroud a safer town for pedestrians and cyclists.
“I’m delighted that 20mph in Stroud is moving forward and look forward to our roads become much more pleasant to walk and cycle along,” said Councillor Lunnon. “The support of Stroud Town Council has been really helpful.”
