At its latest meeting The Town Council’s Grants Committee agreed to provide £375 towards the cost of furniture for a new room facility in one of the two homes that the charity runs for families affected by domestic abuse.
The council also approved a £200 grant to Eco-Renovation Open Homes (pictured) towards the cost of running an Eco-installers Fair. The Top of Town Community Association will also receive £425 towards public liability insurance and three months hall hire to provide youth club facilities. A grant of £500 was awarded to St Laurence’s Church and Church Hall for adapting toilets for disabled use and providing baby changing facilities
Councillor Amanda Moriarty who chairs the committee said the latest awards indicated the Town Council’s efforts to support the many voluntary and community-based projects which form a vital part of town life.
“It never ceases to amaze me how many residents give up their time to get involved in helping other people on a community level,‘ she said. ‘I am always keen to talk to local groups interested in applying for a grant."
