Stroud Trust and Stroud Town Council wish to make it known that earlier this year both organisations met with Ecotricity to discuss a potential partnership which would allow the building to remain in community ownership, but be available for Ecotricity to use during the week. Both offers were declined.
It is clear from our public consultations that the people of Stroud want the building to remain in community ownership. Ecotricity have publicly stated that they want to support the community, so we would like to restate our offer of a partnership which would give Ecotricity weekday use of the building, but in return for an investment in renovating the building rather than buying it. This would enable us to make the improvements to the building detailed in our business plan and provide long‑term security for the building, transparent management and public accountability.
