The 24-hour unit was shut from 10.30pm-7.30am for three nights over the weekend due to staff shortages.
Now the town council will write to Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust for an explanation of what’s going on.
“These overnight closures have all sorts of potential knock-on effects,” said Mayor Kevin Cranston.
“It could mean more ambulances are called when the service is already near breaking point. It will put more pressure on other hospitals which are already overloaded.”
“It also adds more stress and anxiety for the families who use the unit and then discover that they have to travel to Gloucester or Cheltenham for medical help.”
Gloucestershire Care Services runs the Field Road unit as well as six other community hospitals across the county.
