All of our staff got into work – including one who set off at 6.45am to walk from Bussage.
The Green Spaces team, using two four-wheel drive vehicles, an RTV and a tractor, cleared and gritted priority routes in town council managed areas such as St Laurence churchyard and Park Gardens and key areas.
The town council fielded countless calls and liaised closely with Gloucestershire Highways to report problem areas. We also arranged a free supply of salt to be stored in the town centre for traders to use on town centre streets and pavements.
Gloucestershire Highways is responsible for gritting main and secondary routes and for filling local grit bins. With sensible use – one tablespoon of grit per square metre – a full bin should last a season.
While the town council does not have a responsibility for roads, its Green Spaces team aims to help as and when it can.
For more information about grit bins and salt-spreading, see this Gloucestershire Highways information leaflet.
